I LoOoOoovvvvvVvvvVvEeE Bagels.
Being from NJ, I grew up on NY style bagels.
Unfortunately in Charleston, I have not found a great bagel place. I rarely eat them, and it is one of the things I miss most about living up north.
I saw a post on a food blog about these bagels and I just had to make them.
Once they were finished cooking-
I cut one up and ate it steaming hot. OhEmMgEe- SO GOOD!!! You have to try these!
Everything Bagels
--------------INGREDIENTS-----------------
1 1/4 C Warm Water
1 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
1 pkg Active Dry Yeast
3 1/2 C Bread Flour
2 tsp Salt
Poppy Seeds
Sesame Seeds
Garlic Powder
1 Egg
---------PREPARATION--------
In a bowl melt your sugar and water. Once dissolved, add the yeast package. Let sit for 8 minutes
In a mixer with a dough attachment, ( if you don't have one of these, then you can knead the dough for 6 minutes on a floured surface) mix in your flour, salt, and yeast water. Mix on low for 5-6 minutes
Take your dough out and place in a lightly oiled bowl, then cover and let the dough sit for 1 hour in a warm area.
Once an hour has gone by, split your dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll these pieces into balls and with your finger poke a hole in the middle
Boil 5 C water on your stove. Two at a time, once the water is boiling, place your dough in your pot. Cook for 45 minutes on each side. Once they are done, place on a baking sheet.
Whisk 1 egg and 1 Tbsp water together. Brush this on each bagel. Top off with you poppy seeds, sesame seeds, garlic powder, and salt.
Bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes
Done! Easy right? And so much better than any bagel I have eaten down here Hands Down!
